On Tuesday, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) took a significant step forward by adopting a new resolution reaffirming the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. This statement calls for the withdrawal of Israel from the occupied Palestinian territories and advocates for the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state.
The resolution underlines the urgency of putting an end to Israeli actions that have undermined the ability of the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination, a fundamental principle enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and international law.

In a vote reflecting international support for the Palestinian cause, 172 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while only seven, including Israel, the United States, Micronesia, Argentina, Paraguay, and Papua New Guinea, opposed it. Eight countries, including Ecuador and Liberia, chose to abstain.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomed the adoption of this resolution, stating that it represents a fundamental and inalienable right and constitutes a cornerstone of the Charter of the United Nations. This position highlights the importance of the international community in seeking a just and lasting solution to the conflict in the region.
